A heaven for a multitude of animals, Ranthambore has a variety of animals. On the top of the food chain is the tiger, followed by a number of other carnivorous animals like the leopard, sloth bears, hyenas, crocodiles etc.
The above carnivores are supported by herbivorous animals, majority being the sambhars, chitals, and the chinkaras (also know as the Indian Gazelle). The bluebull or neelgai is also found in Ranthambore. The more elusive of the antler family is the black buck which is found mainly on the outskirts of the park. The king of the jungle, the tiger though a solitary animal, sightings are frequent. The main and favourite diet of the king are the sambhars, chitals and chinkaras (Indian Gazelle). |

| The other animal found in the jungles of Ranthambore is the sloth bear. It has a unique 'V' shaped white mark on the chest. Their diet mainly consists of fruits, berries, termites. Sloth bears are especially fond of honey. Though the sloth bear is considered a herbivorous animal it occasionally hunts for meat. Nature at Ranthambore is a self-sufficient ecosystem, in the sense that the flora and fauna supplement each other. Jeep safaris accompanied with a local guide take the tourists to all the important spots located in and around Ranthambore. |
